General cargo ship ALEKSANDER GUSEV drifted aground on the coast of Karelinskaya Guba inlet, Kola Peninsula, at around 0400 UTC Oct 17. All 8 crew have been airlifted to safety by helicopter, salvage postponed until weather improvement. Stormy weather is reported to be the cause of grounding. No leak reported. The ship is engaged in coastal cargo activities with Murmansk serving as base port.
