On the Greek island of Patmos, the world-famous Azamara Journey, the giant cruise ship, crashed into the tugboat that helped it dock. The captain died in the accident where the tugboat sank, and his assistant was rescued with serious injuries.

In the accident that occurred in the neighboring port of Patmos Island, which is 15 miles away from Muğla’s Bodrum district, this morning, the world-famous Malta-Flag Azamara Journey, which often brings tourists to Bodrum and has 1500 passengers, collided with the tugboat Pothitos, which helped the ship dock.

While the 45-year-old tugboat captain died in the accident, his 26-year-old assistant was rescued by divers and taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The body of the deceased captain was retrieved from the sinking tugboat by divers. Theologos Giannaros, the diver’s instructor, said about the accident in Patmos Port, “The cruise ship suddenly dragged the tugboat and sank. We couldn’t understand what was going on,” he said.

It was stated that the 180-meter-long cruise ship was not allowed to leave the port regarding the accident, where the Port Authority and the coast guard launched an investigation into the incident.
