The Suez Canal Authority in Egypt announced that there will be a 5 to 15 percent increase in ship transit fees starting from January 15, 2024.

In the written statement made by the Suez Canal Administration, information was shared about the rate at which the tolls for passage through the canal will be increased and which ships the increase will cover.

In the statement, it was stated that the 15 percent increase in passages through the canal was caused by tankers carrying crude oil, petroleum derivatives, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), chemicals and other liquid materials, as well as private yachts and boats, container ships, car carriers and passenger ships. It was stated that it included ships.

In the statement, it was noted that the tolls for dry bulk cargo, general cargo, ro-ro ships and other ships will be increased by 5 percent, and container ships coming directly from Northwest European ports and going directly to Far Eastern ports will be exempt from this increase.

In the statement, it was stated that the total revenue obtained from the Suez Canal is expected to increase to 10.3 billion dollars by the end of 2023, and it was also shared that the number of ships passing through the canal in the 2022-2023 period increased by 17.6 percent, reaching 26 thousand.
