Fire erupted in engine room of fast ferry QUEEN STAR 2 in Singapore Strait at around 1200 LT May 5, when ferry with 62 passengers on board was en routue from Singapore to Batam. Ferry crew extinguished fire, but understood, vessel has been disabled. Ferry MERBAU ERA moored alongside QUEEN STAR 2 and took all passengers on board, they have been safely disembarked at Batam. QUEEN STAR 2 most probably, is to be towed to Singapore, or has been already towed. Last AIS position was received at around 1200 LT May 5.
