General cargo ship VIET HAI STAR while en route from Vung Tau Vietnam to Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao island, Philippines with 4,000 tons of rice on board suffered water ingress in fore section on Nov 21. The crew couldn’t taken situation under control, the ship turned to Calandorang Bay, eastern coast of Balabac island, and it seems, was intentionally grounded to avoid capsizing or sinking, at around 1900 LT. 17 crew were rescued by CG, all are safe. No oil leak reported so far. The ship is partially submerged with fore tilt and portside list.
