LNG Bunkering Operation Completed on World’s First Dual-Fuel Suezmax Tanker | GREENWAY - News2Sea

Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping completed the first LNG bunkering operation on its new LNG dual-fuel Suezmax vessel, the GREENWAY, on July 4th. The ship has been chartered for its maiden voyage by India’s Reliance Industries to carry a cargo of ultra low sulphur diesel oil.

The vessel was built at China’s Guangzhou shipyard and was their first Suezmax. The order by EPS for the 158,000 dwt GREENWAY was placed in December 2019 along with another vessel; the STARWAY, which is scheduled to be delivered in August 2022. The GREENWAY is 898 ft long and equipped with technology to reduce emissions. Features include a MAN B&W dual-fuel engine, a high-pressure LNG system for the power plant, and a high-pressure catalytic reduction system that allows the vessel to meet IMO Tier III requirements even when not running on LNG are being put on display. When the ship runs on LNG, there is a 23% reduction in CO2 emissions, a 90% reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions, and a 99% reduction in sulphur oxide emissions.

The Greenway’s first LNG bunkering involving the supply of 1500 metric tonnes of LNG took place at the Port of Pengerang in Malaysia. The vessel was also chartered by Reliance industries to carry ultra low sulphur diesel oil which will be loaded at Reliance’s terminal in Jamnagar. After this, the vessel will continue to trade in the spot market.
