A fire broke out at 5:25 a.m. local time Jul 7 at the Nohoch Alfa platform processing center in the Cantarell oil and gas field, Bay of Campeche, Mexico. The state-owned company said 321 workers were evacuated. A press release by the state-owned oil company said that an explosion on the Nohoch-Alfa joining platform caused the blaze, which spread to a compression platform. Of the 328 workers present at the time of the incident, 321 have been successfully evacuated.
Firefighting continues, extent of fire and damages unclear so far.
