Tanker ran aground in Istanbul

A tanker ran aground off the coast of Bakırköy in Istanbul due to southwest winds and was in danger of breaking.

The storm, which increases its effect in Istanbul in the evening hours, negatively affects life.

The Turkish-flagged tanker named “Kadriye Ana”, anchored in the Ahırkapı anchorage area, ran aground due to strong southwest winds.

The captain of the tanker called for emergency help to the rescue teams by radio. The rescue teams took action immediately upon the call.

Shortly after, the captain’s radio message was heard: “We are about to break down, we sat on the rocks, we will go up on the rocks, I want urgent help, urgent help.”

12 crew members were rescued with a successful operation

To avoid the risk of sinking, the crew waited on deck with life jackets. To save the personnel on the ship, a rescue trailer from the sea and a fire brigade from the land intervened.

Despite the storm, the crew was brought ashore using a rope bridge. All 12 crew members were rescued in a successful operation. No one was injured in the incident.

The tanker is 80 meters long

The ship named Kadriye Ana is approximately 80 meters long and 11.5 meters wide. The tanker provides fuel reinforcement to the ships in the anchorage area.

It was learned that the tanker was carrying 600 tons of diesel fuel.
