The Marshall Islands-flagged St. Petersburg ship owned by the Greek shipowner Empire Navigation. The ship named Nikolas was carrying crude oil purchased by Turkish Petroleum Refineries (Tüpraş) from the Iraqi state oil company SOMO.

The tanker, which has no Turkish personnel, has 19 crew members, 18 of whom are Filipinos.

Empire Navigation, the owner of the ship, announced that contact with the ship was lost off the coast of Oman.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations Authority announced that they received a tip that the ship was raided by armed men.

It was reported that the Marshall Islands-flagged crude oil tanker was heading towards Iran’s Cask port city.

In the statement made by Turkish Petroleum Refineries on the subject, it was noted that negotiations with national and international authorities are continuing regarding the ship with which contact was lost.

The ship, previously called “Suez Rajan”, was fined for carrying sanctioned Iranian oil, and then the tanker was seized by the United States.
