“1st International Maritime and Logistics Congress” held in Karadeniz Ereğli district of Zonguldak has started.
Speaking at the congress organized by Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEU) Maritime Faculty at Erdemir Cultural Center, Governor Osman Hacıbektaşoğlu said that Turkey is in an important position in terms of trade routes.
Stating that trade is of great importance in the development of humanity, Hacıbektaşoğlu stated that the Republic of Turkey will continue its path on a different level in the 100th anniversary of its foundation.
Hacıbektaşoğlu emphasized that Turkey is in the “heart of the world” and said, “Zonguldak is one of the arteries of this heart. Zonguldak has a very serious advantage with its ports and transportation facilities. Again, the Filyos Project will carry this to a very important place.” said.
BEÜ Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Özölçer also explained that it is important to carry out studies in line with the “Turkey Century” vision.
Özölçer said, “Remedial practices in the field of maritime, as in other fields, will contribute greatly to the realization of our country’s sustainable development goals. In this regard, it is hoped that bringing together public and sector representatives and academicians at the congress, where the current situations and new approaches in maritime are presented, will provide important outputs.” he said.
“32.8 million tons of grain were transported to the world with 1004 ships through the grain corridor.”
Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Maritime Deputy General Director Yılmaz Taşçı said that Turkey ranks 14th in the world in the maritime sector.
Noting that cruise tourism, which was affected by the epidemic, revived in 2022 and increased further in 2023, with 907 thousand passenger visits on 719 ships as of August, Taşçı stated that the effects of the global crisis in recent years on maritime transportation were also seen.
Taşçı stated that 32.8 million tons of grain were transported to the world with 1004 ships through the grain corridor and continued as follows:
“Turkey also ranked third in this regard. Another global crisis may not have been brought to the agenda much, but there were problems in the passages in the Panama Canal. Delays began in the Panama Canal due to severe drought. As the water levels dropped, the number of ship passages increased to 36 per day.” to 32. This caused the following: There was a 36 percent cost increase in the containers transported from China to the east coast of America and the Gulf coast. This means that, as the final consumer, we do not live on those continents, but it indirectly affects us and affects the markets. “Recent climate changes have initiated major changes in maritime transportation.”
Karadeniz Ereğli District Governor Mehmet Yapıcı, Black Sea Regional Commander Rear Admiral Niyazi Uğur, District Gendarmerie Commander First Lieutenant Ali Akca, District Police Chief Hasan Ünlü, Chamber of Shipping Karadeniz Ereğli Branch Chairman Oğuz Ünlüer and Erdemir General Manager Niyazi Aşkın Peker also attended the congress.
At the congress organized with the theme of “Innovative and Greener Practices”, academicians and experts from Turkey and different countries will discuss the developments in the sector for 2 days.
