200 thousand siraz fry were released into hazar lake

200 thousand juvenile sirazi fish were supplemented to Hazar Lake in Sivrice district of Elazığ to protect the fish stock.

200 thousand sirazi fish fry, produced under full control in the Elazığ Fisheries Research Institute facilities, were released into Hazar Lake with a program organized by the Special Provincial Administration Camp.

Making a speech at the program, Elazığ Governor Ömer Toraman said that it is everyone’s duty to protect Hazar Lake both in terms of fish life and environmental aspects.

Pointing out that siraz fish production is of great importance in terms of sustainable fishing in the lake, Toraman said, “Our Institute has achieved a significant success by cultivating the siraz fish, which is the most common species in Hazar Lake. They then released the fry they obtained into Hazar Lake, making a great contribution to the increase in the fish population.” “We will both protect this endemic fish species and generate income from it.” he said.

Toraman stated that in order to protect the lake environmentally, the projects and treatment systems for removing the sewage of Sivrice center, Gezin, Plajköy and Kızıltepe villages from the lake have been largely completed by the Special Provincial Administration in the last 2 years.

Stating that they have also started the project to transform the Hazar Lake South Coastal Road into a tourism road of high standards, Toraman continued as follows:

“As the Special Provincial Administration, we regularly spray insects around the lake and the solid waste around the lake is collected by the relevant institutions. We have spent approximately 70-75 million liras on these topics in the last 2 years. Each of these ensures the satisfaction and satisfaction of the guests who come here.” “Important services that will increase comfort, it is our duty to protect this lake.”

“We registered our sirra fish”

Özkan Özbay, Director of the Fisheries Research Institute, stated that the sirazi fish, which is the product of a project they started in 2017, is a warm water fish.

Stating that they have produced a total of 3 million 581 thousand carp and 1 million 310 thousand sirazi for three years, Özbay said, “There is a reality of global warming, our waters are getting warmer. As an R&D and innovation institution, we have started warm water fish farming and culture studies in order to take a forward-looking position.” . In this context, we implemented the siraz fish, freshwater chub and shabut fish project this year, meaning we have taken a path to introduce our 3 warm water fish to the industry. “We have registered our sirazi fish, which we will release into Sivrice Lake today, as the fish of this region,” he said.
