While 2 more sailors were rescued from the missing crew of the sinking warship of the Thai navy, the dead bodies of 5 sailors were found.
Search and rescue efforts continue for the sailors who were lost as a result of the sinking of the Thai Navy warship HTMS Sukhothai with a crew of 106 in the Gulf of Thailand. While the rescue operation is approaching 48 hours, it was stated that 2 more of the 31 missing seafarers were rescued and the dead bodies of 5 sailors were reached.
Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, Choengchai Chomchoengpaet, told reporters that the search for the missing sailors continues with a joint operation from sea, air and land. Noting that an investigation was initiated regarding the technical failure that led to the sinking of the ship, Chomchoengpaet stated that the ship, whose service period is 40 years, is 36 years old and that its maintenance is carried out regularly.
Departing from Sattahip Naval Base for training, the HTMS Sukhothai Warship was caught in a severe storm in the Gulf of Thailand on Sunday and submitted an emergency report at around 19.00 local time. While it was learned that the ship completely sank at around 23.00, military rescue boats and the surrounding tankers rescued 75 sailors. A large-scale search and rescue operation was initiated for the 31 sailors who were missing.
