600 kilograms of Methamphetamine were seized at the Port of MELBOURNE in a shipment of toilet paper. Four individuals have been apprehended in connection with this illicit operation and could face a life sentence if found guilty.

The cargo arrived from Malaysia on October 4th at the Port of MELBOURNE. It drew the attention of the Australian Border Force due to irregularities detected during an X-ray scan of the container. Subsequently, the Australian Federal Police was alerted, initiating an investigation.

The Australian Federal Police revealed that within the cargo, there were 622 packages labeled as tea, which were concealed within pallets of toilet paper. Upon inspection, these packages were found to each weigh 1 kilogram and contained a white crystalline substance that later tested positive for Methamphetamine. The seized shipment is estimated to comprise enough narcotics for approximately 6.2 million street-level transactions and has an estimated street value of US$350 million.

On October 11th, law enforcement authorities arrested four foreign nationals concerning this illegal shipment. The suspects include two 33-year-old Chinese nationals, a 34-year-old Malaysian national, and a 32-year-old Hong Kong national. Notably, two individuals were apprehended at the airport while attempting to leave Australia.

These four individuals have been charged with one count of possessing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug. If convicted, this charge carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
