Minister of Internal Affairs Yerlikaya reported that 610 kilograms of cocaine were seized during the search at Mersin International Port within the scope of the Narkogüç operation.

He reported that 3 suspects were detained regarding the incident.

In his statement on his social media account, Minister Yerlikaya stated that they will not tolerate drugs and that the transit routes are constantly monitored.

Noting that the ports were also closely monitored, Ali Yerlikaya said, “Mersin Provincial Police Department’s Anti-Narcotic Crimes Branch seized 610 kilograms of cocaine in a container with the legal load of bananas during the search at Mersin International Port.” he said.

Minister Yerlikaya stated that they received intelligence that cocaine was placed in banana parcels coming from Ecuador and said:

“Our narcotic forces followed the international route of the container. When the drugs arrived at Mersin Port, a Narkoforce operation was launched. 3 suspicious persons, including the owner of the company that would take the banana cargo, were caught. I congratulate our police officers who carried out this great operation. I kiss their eyes. May God not let our country touch the feet of stone.” “Our operations against poison traffickers will continue increasingly.”
