“ALS CERES,” the first in a series of six 7,100 TEU container carriers, has completed construction and was delivered to ABS Class.
Designed by the esteemed Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI) and constructed by the renowned Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company (DSIC) on behalf of Asiatic Lloyd Maritime, this impressive vessel measures 836 feet long and weighs 81,000 dwt.
The vessel has been granted ABS Ammonia Fuel Ready Level 1C and Methanol Fuel Ready Level 1C Class notations. These notations signify that the vessel has undergone a thorough concept-level design study to assess the feasibility of future conversions for fueling with Methanol or Ammonia.
In addition to its adaptability to alternative fuels, the ALS CERES incorporates several cutting-edge design elements. Notably, it proudly is the first vessel to feature the ABS FOC notation, signifying an enhanced standard and the inclusion of additional fire-fighting methods in its design.
The vessel’s builders have prioritized its energy-efficient hull design, ensuring optimal performance and a fuel-efficient main engine that meets the stringent NOx Tier III requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Friedrich Bunnemann, Managing Partner of Asiatic Lloyd, expressed immense pride in the ALS CERES, noting that it represents their first new-build vessel to achieve ABS class certification.
