UKMTO reported distress signal received via VHF in the afternoon Dec 14 from cargo ship in Arabian sea some 400 nm east of Sokotra island – the ship was boarded by unknown persons. No other details given, ship’s name wasn’t revealed. Most probably, it’s a Bulgarian bulk carrier RUEN – her coordinates coincide with given by UKMTO, ship went adrift before AIS went off, since around 1540 UTC. She’s en route from Singapore to Turkey.
Container ship MAERSK GIBRALTAR, operated by Canadian SEASPAN, was fired upon by a missile in southern Red sea northwest of Mukha, Yemen, missile missed. Crew reportedly safe, before missile attack the ship was ordered by Houthis to change course and sail into Yemeni waters. No AIS since around 1120 UTC. She’s en route from Salalah Oman to Jeddah Saudi Arabia.
