7 crew members on the cargo ship drifting off the coast of Balıkesir’s Erdek district due to engine failure were rescued by Coast Guard teams with a helicopter.
The incident occurred in the morning off the coast of Erdek district. The 40-meter-long freighter ‘MV Sicilia’ with 7 crew members started to drift in the open sea due to engine failure.
After the ’emergency’ signal was given from the ship, Erdek Coast Guard Command teams took action.
The crew of the ship drifting with the waves was rescued by helicopter.
It is learned that the malfunctioning ship will be towed to shore with the help of a tugboat.
