Carnival Corp. brings in the eighth LNG-powered cruise ship to its fleet. The ship, “Arvia”, built by the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany has been handed over to P&O Cruises under Carnival.
The ship is 344.5m long, 42m wide, and measures over 185,000 gross tons. It features a range of traditional amenities such as extensive sports, entertainment spaces, and about 30 dining spaces for passengers on board. The ship also has brand-new features such as an escape room, a rum distillery, and a top-deck ropes course. It has 2,659 cabins which can accommodate 5,200 passengers.
The ship is of the Excel Class and has been described as future-proof, as it will be able to run on carbon-neutral e-LNG once the said fuel is more widely available.
The Arvia is to sail on its maiden voyage for P&O on December 23rd from England to the Canary Islands. Following this, it will head over to the Caribbean and then to its homeport in Barbados for the coming winter season. The ship will be officially named on March 16th, 2023 in a first-of-its-kind beachside ceremony in Barbados.
