On December 13th, Carnival Cruise Line’s ship, the ‘CARNIVAL VISTA,’ rescued six crewmembers from the capsized cargo ship ‘Two Brothers,’ which capsized approximately 30 miles north of Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. The US Coast Guard also participated in the operation and successfully rescued an additional six crewmembers found floating in the ocean

The emergency alert reached the cruise ship as it sailed towards the port of Amber Cove on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. The CARNIVAL VISTA, which embarked on a 6-day cruise on December 10th, promptly altered its course under the command of Captain Paolo Severini upon receiving the emergency signal. The ship collaborated with Carnival’s fleet operation center and the local Coast Guard.

Upon reaching the designated area, ship officers spotted a life raft carrying six individuals. After the successful rescue, they discovered information about six more crewmembers who were unaccounted for, prompting them to immediately alert the Dominican Republic Navy.

The Dominican Republic sought assistance from the US Coast Guard, and a MH-60 Jayhawk Helicopter from Coast Guard Operation Turks and Caicos was deployed for the search. The aircrew executed search patterns and successfully located the remaining crewmembers clinging to debris from the sunken vessel. All 12 survivors were transferred to emergency medical services in Puerto Plata and are reported to be in good health.

Following the rescue, the CARNIVAL VISTA resumed its original route, arriving at Amber Cove as scheduled on December 13th.
