The Greek cruise company, Celestyal Cruises, has acquired a cruise ship formerly known as “Ryndam” and renamed it the “CELESTYAL JOURNEY”. A €20 million refurbishment has been planned for the ship before it enters service, although the launch date of the ship has not been disclosed yet.
Celestyal Cruises has acquired the ship from another Greece-based company, Seajets. The ship last operated for P&O Australia, where it was named the “Pacific Aria”. The Greece-based ferry company, Seajets, acquired the Pacific Aria in 2020, after which the vessel was laid up in Greece during the pandemic.
The CELESTYAL JOURNEY has a gross tonnage of 55,819 and can accommodate 1,258 passengers. The vessel is to undergo a €20 million refurbishment in Piraeus, Greece. The ship is expected to join the Celestyal fleet as soon as the overhaul is complete, but no dates regarding this have been disclosed yet.
Celestyal Cruises already has two such mid-size ships in its fleet, the “CELESTYAL OLYMPIA” and the “CELESTYAL CRYSTAL”. With the new acquisition of the Celestyal Journey, Celestyal Cruises is poised to meet the expected surge in demand this summer.
Celestyal CEO, Chris Theophilides, stated that the CELESTYAL JOURNEY has expansive open decks, numerous bar and dining options, as well as spacious public areas and staterooms. He also stated that the new ship will have significantly more premium and balcony staterooms which continue to be in high demand across all of their voyages.
