CMA CGM placed an order for eight methanol dual-fuel medium box ships from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.

The agreement for 9,200 TEU ships is estimated to be worth a total of $1 billion

Alphaliner statistics show that CMA CGM will overtake Maersk to become the second largest cruise ship in the coming years, thanks to its massive order book of 1.2 million slots.

CMA CGM and Maersk joined forces last week on several areas related to decarbonisation.

The two companies said they will jointly analyze green fuels, including their entire life cycle and associated greenhouse gases, in addition to helping determine the framework for mass production of green methane and green methanol.
