Fire erupted in engine room of container ship MONTE SARMIENTO at around 0850 UTC Jun 23, some 50 nm E of Paranagua, Brazil. The crew activated CO2 firefighting system, but reportedly, fire spread to container or containers in aft stacks, and as of 1910 UTC fire might be still on. Ship’s adrift, with at least 1 tug and Navy ship nearby. AIS is on. MONTE SARMIENTO is en route from Santos to Itapoa.
