Container transportation will begin at Giresun Port

According to the statement of Giresun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GTSO), Giresun Port Operations Manager Murat Solak visited GTSO Chairman Hasan Çakırmelikoğlu.

During the visit, Solak stated that they modernized the port they took over in 2018 with infrastructure and superstructure investments.

Stating that the port, whose contribution to the regional economy and employment is increasing day by day, will be put into much more active use with the new agreement, Solak continued as follows:

“As a result of long negotiations, we reached an agreement with MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company), one of the world’s largest container transportation companies, for Giresun Port. From now on, MSC company will add Giresun Port to its container line and start making regular voyages. The first container ship will dock in our port this week. We would like to announce with great happiness to our business world through Giresun Chamber of Commerce and Industry.”

Solak underlined that container transportation will increase commercial circulation by reducing the logistics costs of import and export companies operating in the region, and noted that this will have a positive impact on employment and contribute to the regional economy, Giresun and the country’s exports.

GTSO President Çakırmelikoğlu thanked the contractor company for the activeness of Giresun Port.

Emphasizing that the most important criterion for them is that the port operates in an active and environmentally friendly manner, Çakırmelikoğlu said, “In this context, container service is the key point of maritime transportation, which is indispensable for the export-import process.
