Contecon Manzanillo Commences Its Expansion to Reach More Than 2 Million TEU Capacity - News2Sea

Contecon Manzanillo(CMSA), which is International Container Terminal Services Inc.’s (ICTSI) subsidiary in Mexico, has begun the third phase of its expansion. This expansion will be carried out during the next 5 years and will increase port capacity from 1.4 million TEUs to north of 2 million TEUs.

CMSA CEO, José Antonio Contreras, and Colima Governor, Indira Vizcaíno Silva, laid the first stone for CMSA’s Phase 3 expansion during the project’s inauguration.

The parent company ICTSI has invested $230 million in CMSA which will primarily be utilized to upgrade the storage yards, equipment, and shipping and terminal infrastructure. The capacity boost from this expansion will make Contecon the largest terminal on the Pacific Coast of Mexico.

After the expansion, Contecon Manzanillo, which is a key port on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, will be able to expand its operational capacity and hence support Mexico’s current and future trade needs. This expansion will also create more than 600 new direct jobs.

José Antonio Contreras, CEO of CMSA stated that the terminal has been the node of international logistics on the Pacific coast of Mexico and with the expansion, it will continue to be so.
