Desan, owned by the Kaptanoğlu Family, which has been in maritime activities for more than a century, is purchasing Atlas, one of the most important companies in the shipyard field.
Kocaeli-based Atlas Shipyard, which has made a name for itself with the icebreaker ships it started to build in the past years, is sold to Desan. If the agreement is reached, Desan will gradually acquire Atlas’ shares.
Established in 2005 and operating in Kocaeli Free Zone, Atlas Shipyard has a shipbuilding capacity of 40 thousand DWT per year. The production area of the company is 46 thousand 925 square meters and its capital is 45 million TL. Rus Ark Shipping and Adamant LLC ordered the modern icebreaker type shallow water support vessel Polus from Atlas Shipyard. The 73.3-metre-long Polus was launched in 2021.
Has NATO certification
Desan, on the other hand, is one of the strongest companies in its sector, producing various types of sea vehicles from fuel supply ships to emergency response and training boats for the Turkish Navy. Desan, which belongs to the Kaptanoğlu family, which has been engaged in shipping for 119 years, started its operations in 1970. The company, which has National and NATO Security Permit and Military Ship Production Certificate from the Turkish Ministry of Defense, delivered its first project for the Turkish Naval Forces in August 2020.
