Disabled navigational equipment effectively disables modern ships – cruise ship lost in North sea - News2Sea

Cruise ship MAUD with 266 passengers and 131 crew on board suffered blackout at around 1300 UTC Dec 21 in North sea, while en route from Floro Norway to Tilbury UK, with ETA Dec 22. Blackout was reportedly caused by huge wave hitting bridge, probably flooding it, so though the ship remains under way, she can’t navigate, because all navigational equipment was disabled. Whether it was a wave flooding bridge, or was it some electronics glitch, isn’t clear. The ship sailed in SE direction until evening, then made an u-turn and as of 0600 UTC Dec 22 was sailing at slow speed in NW direction, approached by ESVAGT safety and supply tugs. MAUD doesn’t need towage, it seems. She needs navigation (or deck officers with classic navigation skills and experience?). Her final destination so far, unclear.
