Explora Journeys’ newest ship, the “EXPLORA I,” was delivered on July 20th at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. Its maiden voyage is scheduled for August 1st.
The delivery ceremony was attended by Gianluigi Aponte, Founder and Chairman of the MSC Group, and Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Group’s Cruise Division, among others.
The EXPLORA I’s inaugural voyage will be a 7-night journey from Copenhagen, Denmark, through Lerwick, Shetland Islands, and Kirkwall, Orkney, before finally heading to Reykjavik, Iceland. Subsequent sailings in Northern Europe will offer various itineraries ranging from 7 to 11 nights, with the option to combine them.
The ship costs Explora Journeys around 500 million euros. It has advanced environmental and marine technologies, including Selective Catalytic Reduction, shore power, underwater noise management systems, and energy-efficient equipment to reduce emissions.
This vessel is the first of four, worth a total investment of 2.5 million euros. The EXPLORA II is currently under construction at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Genoa Sestri Ponente and is expected to start service in August 2024. The EXPLORA III and IV will be LNG powered and are projected to be delivered in 2026 and 2027, respectively.
