fincantieri kicks off 2023 with double cruise ship delivery

Fincantieri delivered two new cruise ships to Viking and Oceania Cruises within the last week. The vessel, named “VISTA” and “VIKING SATURN,” are the first two of a total of six that Fincantieri plans to deliver in 2023.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings reported that the occupancy rate for its three brands improved to approximately 101.5% in the first quarter of 2023, surpassing the company’s guidance of 100%. The company is projecting an even higher occupancy rate in the next quarter, with the phased occupancy ramp-up expected to reach 105%.

On April 28th, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings took delivery of the “VISTA,” the first of three ships that Fincantieri will deliver to the company this year. The 67,000 gross ton ship is 791 feet in length, can accommodate 1,200 passengers and 800 crew, and has one of the highest crew-to-passenger ratios in the industry. The “VISTA” was delivered from Fincantieri’s Sestri Ponente shipyard near Genoa, Italy, and is set to be christened in Valletta, Malta, on May 8th.

On April 26th, Fincantieri delivered the “VIKING SATURN” to Viking Cruise Lines from its Ancona shipyard in Italy. The ship is 47,800 gross tons, has 465 cabins, and can accommodate 930 passengers. The “VIKING SATURN” has already started cruising and has a christening ceremony scheduled for June 6th in New York.

These two ships are part of Fincantieri’s plan to deliver six ships in 2023. The remaining two, the “Norwegian Viva” and the “Seven Seas,” will also be delivered to Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.
