On July 18th, China Merchants Jinling Shipyard delivered the “FINNSIRIUS,” a two-star hybrid freight passenger vessel, to Finnlines in Weihai, China. This marks the first of two vessels and is set to begin service on the Finland-Sweden line from September 2023.
The second vessel, named “Finncanopus,” is also on track for delivery to Finnlines and is expected to be handed over in September 2023. Both ships are part of a $500 million green newbuild program, encompassing ro-pax and ro-ro vessels.
The “FINNSIRIUS” features state-of-the-art technology, including air-lubrication technology, battery packs, exhaust gas abatement, auto mooring, waste heat recovery, ballast water treatment, and a connection to shore power. With a length of 235.6 meters and a width of 33.3 meters, it will be the largest in Finnlines’ fleet, along with its yet-to-be-delivered sister ship. The vessel is registered in Finland.
In addition to its impressive size and eco-friendly features, the ship is designed to provide enhanced services to its passengers. These include a variety of cabin categories, several themed restaurants, meeting rooms, a large shop, and multiple lounges, among others.
With a cargo carrying capacity of 5,200 lane meters and accommodation for 1,100 passengers in its 323 cabins, the “FINNSIRIUS” can reach a top speed of 21.0 knots. It boasts a 1A Super Ice class rating and has a deadweight tonnage of 11,980.
