Fire on dry cargo ship in Sinop: 16 injured, 3 seriously

A fire broke out on the dry cargo ship off Sinop. Brought to the port by boats, 16 injured, 3 of them seriously, were taken to the hospital. The captain of the ship is thought to have died.

A fire broke out on the dry cargo ship off the Bozburun location for an undetermined reason.

The fire was intervened by the Marine Police and Coast Guard teams.

16 people from the ship’s crew were brought to Sinop Port with the help of fishing boats. 16 people injured and affected by the smoke, 3 seriously, were taken to the hospital. It was learned that the captain of the ship was missing.

Efforts to extinguish the fire on the ship continue.

Erol Karaömeroğlu told  that a great fire broke out on the Maltese-flagged ship “Meta”, 7 miles off Sinop.

Explaining that there are 17 personnel on board, Karaömeroğlu said, “We rescued 16 of them. The last 3 people we rescued from the ship are about to arrive at our pier with a fishing boat. We have taken our health measures. Our rescue activities on the ship continue.” said.

Ömer Canik, one of the fishermen who supported the rescue efforts, stated that the fire probably started from the back of the ship and said, “One of the personnel had his leg broken below the knee. They were in a very difficult situation. ” he said.
