France sent a hospital ship to Gaza, where the humanitarian crisis has reached catastrophic levels due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflicts.
According to BFMTV, the hospital ship named Tonnerre departed for Gaza from the Toulon Port of France at 16:00 local time yesterday.
The ship will provide support to those injured in Israel’s indiscriminate heavy air strikes and to hospitals in Gaza, which are facing shortages of fuel and medical supplies.
In the first stage, the ship will provide medical material support to hospitals, and in the second stage, it will operate as an emergency room.
The 199-meter-long ship is expected to provide service with two operating rooms, an x-ray room and a capacity of at least 69 beds.
Tonnerre, which has been in service since 2007, is used for crisis management, transportation, medical evacuation and support operations.
France sent hospital ships to its overseas territories during the Covid-19 epidemic.
In Gaza, where more than 5 thousand people, mostly women and children, lost their lives, Israel’s complete blockade of water, electricity, food and fuel entry continues.
While the destruction in the region increases day by day due to Israeli air strikes, 2.3 million people cannot access basic food items.
