Seagrass was planted in Kaş-Kekova Marine Protected Area by Iskenderun Technical University (ISTE) Faculty of Marine Sciences and Technology.
Dean of ISTE Faculty of Marine Sciences and Technology, Prof. Dr. In his statement to journalists, Cemal Turan said that they carried out work in the Kaş-Kekova Marine Protected Area within the scope of Özgür Dara’s master’s thesis research project.
Explaining that they planted the plant within the scope of the “Protection, Rehabilitation and Restoration of Seagrasses” project supported by the Nature and Science Association, Turan stated that it has been determined that seagrasses, which contribute to the ecosystem in many areas, have disappeared in many regions.
Turan stated that, within the scope of their project, they planted seagrass in the Kaş-Kekova Marine Protected Area in order to bring the seagrass back to life and increase its proliferation.
Stating that they follow the development of the plants, Turan said:
“We hope that we will see the spread of seagrasses in the region in the coming days. Seagrasses are widely found in the Mediterranean and the Aegean, but they are gradually decreasing and losing their habitat due to many environmental factors. We aim to bring seagrasses back to life, ensure their survival, and provide a new environment for many creatures.” “We plan to create a living and breeding area like this.”
