Bulk carrier NEMRUT BAY ran aground on De Britto Bank in the morning Jun 21, 10 nm off Binh Thuan Province coast, southern Vietnam. The ship was approaching port of destination Vung Tau from Korea, with 25510 tons of steel on board. Salvage still under way as of Jul 10, or to be exact, it entered a new phase. NEMRUT BAY refloating attempts understood to fail, lightering has become necessary, and on Jul 10 general cargo ship PHUONG NAM 98 arrived at the site, to offload part of cargo. 4 tugs are reported to be at site, though only one is seen on AIS radar. No information on ship’s damages, but no leak reported, either. Bottom the ship is resting on, is sand, limestone, reefs. NEMRUT BAY AIS is off since grounding.
