The Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany has achieved a major milestone with the laying of the keel for the Disney Treasure cruise ship. This ship, being built for the US-based Disney Cruise Line, is expected to debut in 2024. With the keel laying ceremony completed, the hull assembly for the vessel has now begun.

As part of maritime tradition, a coin ceremony was held to mark the occasion of the Disney Treasure’s keel laying. The ceremony is said to bring good fortune to the ship. During the event, a newly minted coin featuring an image of Captain Minnie Mouse in a new adventure-themed outfit designed specifically for the ship was placed under the keel by Phillip Gennotte, Portfolio Project Management Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering in Germany.

The Disney Treasure is part of the “Wish Class” and is one of three vessels that Disney will receive through 2025. All of these ships are powered by liquefied natural gas and have a gross tonnage of 144,000, with 1,254 staterooms. One of its sister ships was delivered last year.

Meyer Werft has previously delivered other vessels to Disney, including the DISNEY DREAM and the DISNEY FANTASY in 2010 and 2012, respectively.
