Lebanese Energy Minister Walid Fayyad said that the drilling ship that will conduct natural gas exploration in the country’s territorial waters has arrived at Block 9 and the result will be known in 2-3 months.
Fayyad held a joint press conference at Beirut Airport with the Lebanese Minister of Transport, Ali Hamiye, and the officials of “TotalEnergies”, who were fighting in the 9th Block.
Stating that the drilling ship “Transocean” belonging to French TotalEnergies has reached the 9th Block of the Kana Gas Field, Fayyad said, “We will obtain the results of the drilling works within 2-3 months.” used the phrases.
Fayyad stated that TotalEnergies is very optimistic about the possible “gas reserve” in the region where the drilling will take place, and stated that there are a few steps left to the gas extraction process.
Stating that Beirut Airport will be used as a logistics base to send reinforcements to the drilling ship, Fayyad stated that Gulf Helicopters Company will carry all the personnel of the drilling ship from the airport.
Lebanese Transport Minister Ali Hamiye also stated that all necessary support will be provided for drilling ships from Beirut Port as well as Beirut Airport, and that the work on this issue has started as of today.
The 9th Block, where companies belonging to Qatar, France and Italy will conduct natural gas exploration, is located in the southern waters of Lebanon.
Lebanon accelerated its gas exploration activities after reaching an agreement on the drawing of the disputed maritime border with Israel on October 27, 2022.
