The first Floating Regasification and Storage Unit (FSRU) to be used in the Floating LNG terminal in Lubmin, arrived in Germany on 24th November. This FSRU will become a part of the first and only privately financed LNG terminal, supplying LNG to Germany. While in Finland, UK-based Avenir LNG completed its first delivery of LNG to the Hamina LNG Terminal.
Both Germany and Finland have opted for FSRUs to source their required LNG while weaning themselves off of Russian energy imports.
On November 23rd, the Norwegian flagged “Neptune” arrived in the German port of Mukran. The vessel is owned by Hoegh LNG and has a capacity of 145,130 cubic meters. However, certain changes are required to be made to the vessel before it heads for the industrial port of Lubmin. The vessel’s draught will be reduced from 9.6m to 5.2m and a pipe adapter will be installed for the FSRU to precisely connect to the onshore pipeline network.
Meanwhile, on November 22nd, UK-based Avenir delivered its first LNG cargo to the newly made Hamina LNG Terminal in Finland. The Hamina LNG Terminal has a storage capacity of 30,000 cubic meters and a daily capacity of 4,800 MWh. This particular LNG Terminal will supply both Finland and Estonia via pipelines.
