lng-powered cruise ship ‘silver nova’ sets sail on maiden voyage in the adriatic

Silversea Cruises’ latest LNG-powered cruise ship, “SILVER NOVA,” embarked on its inaugural journey on August 14th, setting sail from Venice, Italy, for a roundtrip voyage through the Adriatic.

With a capacity to host 728 passengers and 544 crew members, the vessel is a 54,700-ton LNG-powered ship that has been built at Germany’s Meyer Werft Shipyard. The ship’s design integrates batteries and fuel cells, poised to achieve an industry-first of emission-free operation within ports. This hybrid power innovation also achieves a remarkable 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions during normal operations compared to Silversea Cruises’ prior class of ships.

Beyond its cutting-edge functionality, “SILVER NOVA” sets a new standard for luxurious cruising. Offering 13 distinct suite categories, the most spacious being the “Otium Suite” spanning 1,324 square feet, which boasts a 431-square-foot outdoor area with a hot tub. Even the smallest suite spans 357 square feet. These suites showcase glass doors opening to balconies, double vanities, and walk-in closets.

The ship also features nine restaurants, a bi-level pool deck, a fresco dusk bar, and an array of nine bars and lounges.

During its maiden voyage, “SILVER NOVA” will grace the ports of Piran, Slovenia; Zadar, Dubrovnik, Split, and Rovinj in Croatia; and Kotor in Montenegro. Following this debut, the ship will cruise the Mediterranean throughout summer, embarking on a journey to the Caribbean and South America come November. The ship will begin its 71-day Grand Voyage to South America, commencing on January 4th, 2024.
