A cooperation protocol was signed between Mersin International Port Management (MIP) and Mersin-Tarsus Organized Industrial Zone (MTOSB).

Speaking at the signing ceremony, MTOSB President Sabri Tekli said, “I believe that Mersin will rise to a stronger position with this protocol to be signed within the framework of the cooperation of Mersin Tarsus Organized Industrial Zone and Mersin International Port, which are the two important dynamics of our city.”

Emphasizing that Mersin Port, which was established in the mid-1800s, has been one of the most important dynamics of the city for more than a century, Tekli said, “Mersin has the largest port in Turkey in terms of container capacity and is the 92nd largest port in the world. . Mersin Port carries the logistical burden not only of our city but also of nearly 50 percent of our country’s hinterland. “At the same time, this potential of Mersin Port brings an important logistics capability to our city, and this capability increases the demand of investors for our city,” he said.

“The expansion of our port is of great importance to us as industrialists.”

Noting that the MTOSB 4th Region, whose preliminary allocations were made two days ago, emerged as a result of this strong cooperation, Tekli said, “There are more than 300 companies requesting to invest in our region. For this reason, we are accelerating our preparations for Region 5 and Region 6. We plan to complete the infrastructure and superstructure of our 4th Region by the end of 2024 and make the preliminary allocations of our 5th Region as soon as possible. As our Mersin Tarsus Organized Industrial Zone expands, our needs for storage areas, customs areas and handling areas increase proportionally. “As the production volume in our Organized Industrial Zone increases day by day, the trade volume through Mersin International Port is also increasing, so the expansion of our port is of great importance to us, as industrialists,” he said.

Tekli said that the new area with a capacity of 1 million TEU, which will be created with the expansion of the port, will enable industrialists to manage their overseas operations more easily and continued as follows; “In addition, we will provide logistics support to our industrialists with the new bonded temporary storage area and handling areas we will create in our region.

In this context, I believe that this strong cooperation will provide greater benefits to our industry. More than half of the 250 companies in our Organized Industrial Zone export or import. Approximately 40 percent of this trade in our region is carried out by sea. Due to this developing trade volume, cooperation becomes much more important. Mersin International Port makes great contributions to our city, industry and hinterland. Our cooperation, which has continued for years, will today be strengthened with a protocol and will have a stronger structure. I believe that we will see the positive reflections of this strong cooperation on our industrialists and our city’s trade volume and logistics capability in a short time.”

Following the speech, the cooperation protocol signing ceremony between MIP and MTOSB was held with the participation of managers.

MIP Chairman of the Board Flemming Dalgaard, MTOSB Chairman Sabri Tekli, PSA Europe Mediterranean Region CEO, MIP Board Member David Yang, PSA Europe Mediterranean Region CFO, MIP Board Member Dirk Jan Storm, MIP General Manager Ajay Kumar Singh attended the ceremony. , MTOSB Regional Manager Halil Yılmaz and other officials attended.
