Emergency service in Korsakov port, Sakhalin, Russia, was alerted in the morning Feb 25 by report on methane gas leak on board of container ship FESCO TATARSTAN, berthed at port since Feb 22. Methane is leaking from faulty valve of 20-ton flexitank, stored on upper deck and surrounded by empty containers. Wind is blowing in sea direction, so there is no imminent danger to local residents. 17 crew are evacuated. It is too risky yet to try to offload leaking flexitank, authorities waiting for arrival of specialized team and equipment.
