On July 21st, German shipbuilder Meyer Werft handed over the “SILVER NOVA,” the newest cruise ship in Silversea Cruises’ fleet.

Weighing 574,000 tons, the “SILVER NOVA” is the flagship of the innovative Nova Class, part of the ambitious Project Evolution newbuild project. It features a hydrodynamic design and operates primarily on LNG fuel.

With a capacity for 728 passengers, the ship boasts a variety of amenities, including bars, restaurants, lounges, and 364 guest suites, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience during its inaugural season.

Utilizing hybrid power derived from both LNG and batteries, the “SILVER NOVA” aims to achieve a notable milestone of emission-free operation in ports, significantly reducing its environmental impact. It is expected to achieve a remarkable 40% reduction in Greenhouse Gas emissions compared to previous ship classes.

On June 10th, the “SILVER NOVA” was refueled by Titan, a supplier of low and zero-emission fuels, using their Green Zeebrugge LNG bunkering vessel. This bunkering operation took place at the cruise ship’s location in the seaport of Eemshaven, Groningen, The Netherlands, where a total of 900 cubic meters of LNG were transferred onto the “SILVER NOVA.”

The second ship in the new Nova class, named the “Silver Ray,” is set to enter service in the summer of 2024.
