On Sunday, October 29th, a passenger went overboard from the cruise ship SYMPHONY OF THE SEAS. Miraculously, the same cruise ship doubled back to search for the passenger and successfully rescued them.

The ‘Oscar’ code announcement stating passenger going overboard occurred around 11:00 PM on Sunday.

Upon realizing that a passenger had gone overboard, the ship’s captain immediately reported the man overboard situation to the authorities and initiated a search for the missing individual. The ship doubled back, searchlights from the ship scanned the ocean, and several rescue boats were dispatched for the search.

Surviving a fall from a cruise ship, and surviving prolonged exposure to the ocean are extremely unlikely. Consequently, very few individuals who go overboard are ever rescued and returned safely.

In a remarkable turn of events, the passenger was recovered from the ocean about an hour after the man-overboard announcement. The crew informed all passengers that the missing individual had been found and brought back alive.

Following this dramatic rescue, SYMPHONY OF THE SEAS resumed its commercial voyage and called at the port of Valencia on Monday. The ship is scheduled to arrive at Port Everglades in mid-November.
