MSC Cruises has informed passengers aboard the “MSC POESIA,” on the 121-day world cruise, of a reroute to circumvent the Red Sea due to security concerns.

Gianni Pilato, Sales Manager for the expedition, reassured passengers that despite itinerary adjustments due to security concerns, most planned stops are still in the itinerary. Pilato highlighted that the original 7-day segment in the Red Sea had to be altered.

The Poesia set sail from Genoa, Italy on January 5th, embarking on its 121-day journey. Security issues involving missile attacks by Houthi Rebels in the Red Sea have necessitated MSC and many other leading shipping firms to adjust their routes. In the case of this cruise, this has resulted in a revised cruise duration of 114 days.

Initially, the itinerary included Mediterranean stops, a transit through the Suez Canal, travel along the East Coast of Africa, followed by crossing over to South America. Subsequently, the ship was slated to journey to the Caribbean, the US East Coast, Canada, and conclude its voyage in Germany.

To navigate away from security risks, the ship’s visits to Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan were removed. Instead, the modified route involves sailing from the Mediterranean along the South Coast of Africa, passing the Cape of Good Hope, then north along the East African coast to reach the planned stop in Kenya. Afterward, the ship will backtrack through the Indian Ocean to resume the original itinerary, transiting the Cape of Good Hope again before concluding the journey.
