The “MSC MAGNUM VII” arrival at Greenock marked a historic moment, as it became the largest containership ever to dock at the port of GREENOCK, Scotland. GREENOCK is known for having the deepest container ship terminal in Scotland.

This vessel had sailed from the Port of Liverpool, England, and set course for Bristol the following day. The “MSC MAGNUM VII” has a weight of 75,000 tonnes, a length of 300 meters, and a capacity of 6,750 TEU. While it falls on the lower end of the size spectrum in the world of container ships, it holds the title of the largest ship to visit the Port of GREENOCK. The previous record-holder, “MS Pohorje,” was 267 meters long with a capacity of 4,045 TEU and had made its inaugural visit to the port back in July 2017.

The arrival of this new vessel reflects the significant investments made by the port to increase its capacity. Greenock can presently process around 100,000 TEU per year and has recently invested in larger container cranes to expand its terminal’s container processing capabilities. This investment amounted to a substantial $20.7 million and is the port’s largest single financial commitment.

It’s important to highlight that the “MSC MAGNUM VII” now holds the record for being the largest containership ever visiting the Port of GREENOCK. In terms of the largest vessel overall to dock at the port, the title belongs to the “MSC Virtuosa,” a colossal ship measuring 331.43 meters in length and weighing 181,500 gross tons.
