New Container Terminal to Be Built at the Port of Baltimore - News2Sea

A new container terminal will be built at the port of Baltimore through a partnership between Terminal Investment limited and Tradepoint Atlantic. The construction of the new terminal is expected to ease capacity issues, boost the port’s potential and create around 1000 new jobs.

The project is a 165-acre new terminal with an on-dock rail box facility. It will be constructed within the Tradepoint industrial hub in Sparrows Point, Maryland, which has already attracted big names such as, Amazon, BMW, FedEx, and Volkswagen. The new facility will also be only 50 miles away from Washington DC and will serve the third biggest consumer market in the US.

This will be the third container terminal at the port of Baltimore and is expected to increase the space for container operations in the port by 50%. Port Officials have stated that the new terminal will give the port of Baltimore a competitive advantage up and down the Eastern Seaboard.

Terminal Investment Limited is headquartered in Switzerland and is owned by the shipping giant Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). MSC is currently the largest shipping line at the Port of Baltimore and is expected to take advantage of the newly created capacity at the port of Baltimore, once the terminal is operational.
