China Merchants’ Jinling Shipyard in Weihai successfully delivered the “CGM INDIANAPOLIS” on December 20th. The vessel has been transferred to Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping, which will charter it to CMA CGM. This marks the first of four dual-fuel LNG car carriers set to be operated by CMA CGM.

Three more such ships are to be delivered in 2023, and Eastern Pacific Shipping has placed an order of 16 such ships at the China Merchants’ Jinling Shipyard. The order was placed back in 2021 and all of the ships are expected to be delivered by 2026. The shipyard proudly highlights its timely delivery, managing to hand over the ship 1-2 days ahead of the schedule.

Each of these vessels spans approximately 200 meters in length and weighs around 18,600 dwt. Capable of reaching a top speed of 19 knots, these ships boast 12 cargo decks, which are a combination of fixed and movable types, enhancing the efficiency of cargo loading and unloading operations.

Eastern Pacific highlights that these ships have a capacity for 7,000 units and currently are the largest in the company’s fleet. Notably, they’re designed with a high-pressure dual-fuel system and equipped with two 2000 cubic meter LNG storage tanks. The ships also incorporate energy-efficient features like a shaft generator, photovoltaic systems, and a 751 kWh ESS capacity lithium battery developed by Corvus.
