The “Clean Canaveral,” North America’s largest LNG bunker barge, successfully completed its first barge-to-ship bunkering operation at Port Canaveral.

The ship refueled during this milestone was the M/T DAMIA DESGAGNES, which made its inaugural call to Port Canaveral. JAX LNG and Polaris New Energy handled the bunkering responsibility. Docked at Port Canaveral’s South Cargo Berth 4, the M/T DAMIA DESGAGNES underwent its first-ever LNG bunkering from a barge after unloading its cargo.

Approximately 400 cubic meters of LNG were loaded onto the ship, marking the first time its operator, Petro-Nav, brought the vessel to Port Canaveral for LNG refueling from a bunker barge.

The “Clean Canaveral” is the largest Jones Act bunker barge, boasting a capacity of 5,500 cubic meters. It operates as an articulated tug-barge unit (ATB) along the Southeastern United States coast and is owned by Polaris Energy, which took delivery of the barge in late 2021.

This successful fuelling operation was made possible through the coordination of Port Canaveral, JAX LNG, the Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit of Canaveral, and the Canaveral Fire Rescue. GAC bunker fuels facilitated the LNG transfer for the bunkering.
