Norwegian Cruise Line has recently introduced three new Catamaran vessels to its fleet. Smallest in Norwegian’s fleet, these catamarans serve as transportation between Norwegian’s cruise ships and their private island resort.
Each measuring 25 meters in length, these catamarans were designed by Incat Crowther and built by Penguin Shipyard International. They bear the names GSC 1, GSC 2, and GSC 3 and have a passenger capacity of 352 each. Their primary function is transporting passengers between Norwegian’s cruise ships and Great Stirrup Cay, a private island resort in the Berry Islands of the central Bahamas.
Given their role in ferrying passengers from cruise ships, it was essential for these vessels to complement the design of the cruise ships themselves. Each catamaran features custom-designed main deck bow ramps for easy boarding and disembarkation. The main deck can accommodate 164 passengers, while the upper deck can seat 188. Additionally, two wheelchair-accessible areas are available on the main deck, along with a handicap-accessible toilet.
Incat, the designer of these catamarans, has emphasized that the deep hull design, boasting a depth of nearly 6 feet, ensures maximum passenger comfort during the shuttle rides to and from the island.
