Hatay Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry announced that the purchase of puffer fish tails has started in order to reduce the stocks of puffer fish in the sea.
In the written statement made by the directorate, it was stated that puffer fish is a poisonous fish that has been the subject of frightening news lately, appearing like a nightmare.
In the statement, it was stated that puffer fish are becoming increasingly common in the gulfs of Iskenderun and Izmir, and it was noted that puffer fish contain a poisonous substance called “tetrodotoxin” in their bodies and people can be affected even by touching the fish.
In the statement, he included the following statements:
“Recently, both in the news published in the press and in the information received from our fishermen, it is stated that puffer fish, a poisonous species, has been seen and caught in the Mediterranean, where our city is located, and even in our Iskenderun district, puffer fish have been eaten and caused poisoning. Our citizens, commercial and amateur fishermen in our city Considering that consuming blowfish, which is a poisonous species, is very dangerous for human health and may result in death, people should be sensitive about this issue.
In order to reduce the stocks of puffer fish in our seas, tail purchases have started according to the relevant communiqué published by our Ministry in 2020. In this context, a total of 51 thousand 370 tails were purchased in our Hatay province between 2020-2023 and a support payment of 198 thousand 48 lira was made to our fishermen. Tail purchases will be made in 2024 and support payments will be made.”
