In Tekirdağ’s Süleymanpaşa district, a red algae accumulation formed on a part of the beach due to the north wind.
The waves generated by the wind, which has been affecting the city for 2 days, dragged algae and some waste onto the shore.
Some areas on the beach were also covered with red algae.
Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Çorlu Engineering Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Lokman Hakan Tecer said that the image was not caused by pollution, but was caused by the north-eastern wind washing the algae at the bottom of the sea onto the shore.
Stating that these situations occur seasonally from time to time, Tecer said, “Algae washes up on the shore because the winds are effective for a long time. There is no dangerous situation. It can cause odor depending on the temperature. There is no environmental pollution that would cause citizens to be afraid.” he said.
İbrahim Pehlivanoğlu, President of Tekirdağ Süleymanpaşa Fisheries Cooperative, stated that there is no algae on all beaches, but it can be seen in some areas.
Stating that the moss will disperse as the windy weather loses its effect, Pehlivanoğlu said, “The moss has increased due to the effect of the north wind in recent days. There is no reason for citizens to be worried.” said.
Erdal Coşkunçay, a resident of the city, also stated that algae sometimes causes bad odor.
