Review from the Turkish Grand National Assembly Fisheries and Aquaculture Research Commission

Members of the GNAT Fisheries and Aquaculture Research Commission made an inspection in Erdek.

Commission members, under the chairmanship of AK Party Istanbul Deputy İsmail Emrah Karayel, visited the fishing shelters in Karşıyaka, Çakıl and Kestanelik neighborhoods.

The delegation then met with fishermen who are members of Karşıyaka and Çakıl Fisheries Cooperative.

Karayel pointed out the importance of fishing and fishermen for the Marmara Region and Turkey and said, “Thank you for all your efforts. May God grant you abundant profits.” said.

Explaining their problems to the MPs, the fishermen stated that they could not go on a trip if the boat and ship tracking device BAGİS malfunctioned and that they wanted to continue fishing until the device was repaired.

Stating that the number of ports and shelters is insufficient, fishermen demanded new regulations regarding the fishing season, bans, net lengths and hunting areas, the construction of new ports and piers in the region, and the repair of faulty lighthouses.

Karayel also stated that they will do their best to solve the problems reported by the fishermen and that they will include solution suggestions in the report they will prepare. Commission spokesman and CHP Sinop Deputy Barış Karadeniz stated that a base price policy should also be implemented in fish.
